Arequipa is a vast region with wonderful destinations, as we always recommend, one day is not enough to visit the best destinations in Peru and Arequipa has a lot to offer, even so, five days are ideal to get to know the best of this beautiful land:
The City: Originally the city of Arequipa was built on the basis of a white rock called Sillar, this material made all the houses or buildings shine with the sun and hence its emblematic name "The White City". As a colonial city it has the Monastery of Santa Catalina, a beautiful main square and old museums. It also has an agricultural sector that is, so to speak, in the middle of the city, La Campiña is a cool redoubt where the tourist can see the farms and classic crops today. Another very important reason to stay in the city of Arequipa is its food, the traditional culinary art is so important that it has developed its own kitchen, its own dishes and its unique style of customer service, these places are called Picanterías and they offer, such as star dishes, Rocoto Relleno, Adobo Arequipeño, Cuy Asado, Stews, Tallarines, etc.
The Colca Canyon: A few hours from the city is this endless inter-Andean valley, it has a welcoming climate and the most beautiful landscapes in the area, it is carved between the great mountains of the southern Andes and is blessed by the Colca River. It has a rich peasant population with its own customs, colorful clothes and exquisite crafts. There are also many colonial temples and places where time has stopped, recalling the time when Peru was a Spanish colony. In the Colca inhabits the indomitable Andean condor, the largest of all, now it has recovered its former territory to explore and hunt because the laws protect it. The valley also offers many high-class hotels and tourist accommodation, major chains have branches, and tourist services provide great assistance to the traveler.
Arequipa is not only these two attractions, we have the Toro Muerto petroglyphs, the beaches of Camaná, the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, the Valley of the Volcanoes and much more.
