The city of Cusco, known as the Navel of the World, Historic Capital of Peru, Imperial City, is considered within the most beautiful cities of America. In older times, it was the capital of the Inca Empire, one of the most important cities of the Vice Royalty of Peru, which, led by the Spaniards, spruced up with churches, palaces and baroque and neoclassic plazas, which now make it the main touristic place in Peru. It was declared World Heritage in 1983 by Unesco, and it is usually called the “Rome of America” due to the great number of monuments it has.
Within these beautiful colonial monuments, we can mention the Cathedral of Cusco, which is the main temple of the city, together with the temples of Triunfo (triumph) and Sagrada Familia (Sacred Family) make up the Cathedral complex, located in the northeast sector of the current Main Square. The place where the Suntur Wasi was, and Palace of the Inca Wiracocha.
Another place that all alone shelters most of the colonial streets and houses in Cusco is the historic neighborhood of San Blas, that, when visiting it, is like going back in time, with its narrow streets, its marvelous sight of the imperial city, as well as its church, which make Cusquenians proud and make visitors fall in love with it.
We cannot fail to mention other attractions like the Nazarenas square, Regocijo square, San Cristobal, etc. which both day and night, with its magic lighting, will envelop you with that energy and magic only found in Cusco.
